Scenes

Chapter 4 - Drinking Choices

Drinking Choices depicts the pressures to drink on campus and possible consequences. It explores the many decisions that are made while partying and the various degrees of risk that may be encountered, including damage to ones’ reputation, propensity to fight, health risks/death, and emotionally hurting/worrying friends and family.

Chapter 5 - Understanding Person-Centered Care

Understanding Person-Centred Care: Finding Dignity Within the Shadows is based upon focus group interviews with staff and family members at a long-term health facility serving patients with dementia or traumatic brain injury. The trauma of leaving home, competing expectations, (mis)communications, time pressures, and dealing with conflicts are some of the experiences that can be workshopped.

Chapter 6 - Challenging the Myths: Stories from the Outside and from the Inside of a Women’s Shelter

Challenging the Myths was devised from transcripts from ‘guests’ and ‘hosts’ at a women’s shelter in the Niagara region. The scenes portray the stigmas encountered by the women interviewed and the importance of a safe, welcoming environment.

Chapter 7 - Mental Health Conversation Starters

Many of the scenes metaphorically depict the advantages of reaching out ‘when ready’. They are meant to ‘start’ conversations about seeking and maintain support systems.

Chapter 8 - Decisions, Decisions: aka University 101

There can be a big shift from high school to the university setting. In addition to understanding the material, there are several non-academic decisions that can play a role in one’s academic success, including time management skills, balancing studies with socialization, budgeting, eating choices, and taking personal responsibility. These scenes make explicit some of these for discussion.

Chapter 9 - Entrances and Exits: Addressing Possible Interpersonal Issues in Co-op Placements

In addition to job skills, there are many interpersonal aspect of cooperative work experiences of which first impressions, unreasonable requests, dealing with gossip, and assessment practices being but a few. Discussing these before hand can better prepare students prior to their placements.
